Team Components
Sometimes there is little thought put into the personal of a random project team.
A boss might say to a subordinate to look at something with a group or to conduct a project that doesn’t seem that involved and it might get discounted earlier than it should.
It is often important to take a quick moment and to think about the components of the team on a random ad-hoc assignment rather than just use a group that is familiar with each other.
It is said that to build an effective team, you need four types of profiles on the team.
The first is:
1. Generators – These are creative leads who are often idea heavy but light on solutions and implementations.
Think of an advertising agency, the creative team does not judge ideas during the creative process.
This is where content is created which generates further discussions.
Many teams and companies have identified who and what they are, as well as where they want to go from ideas created by generators.
The second is:
2. Editors – This profile helps pick out the ideas that have potential.
They can often be streamlined and refined into something that is precise and concise and ties in with company mandates.
The third is:
3. Makers –This profile is the one that focuses on implementation.
These people are in charge of making an idea actionable.
Concept and focus is one thing but Makers will often bring a sense of realism to the discussion.
Finally, there is:
4. Collaborators – This group is great at building team chemistry and collaboration.
They have the ability to get the execution completed and get the team to pull on the rope at the same time.
Their effectiveness will often determine whether a project gets done on time and on budget.
Generators need Editors
Generators and Editors need Makers
Large teams need Collaborators
Remember to take a moment and consider the ingredients of your next team, regardless of how small you may think your project might be in scale or size.
