Heated Verbal Exchanges In the Office
Loud verbal exchanges in the office.
It happens occasionally and is more common than people realize.
It is not often seen in the large tier 1 companies with established human resources departments and buttoned down structures, but it happens more frequently with small to mediums sized companies which of course are the largest and fastest growing segment of employers in Canada.
It can affect productivity and morale and can be especially counter-productive when it occurs near employees who are not comfortable with conflict, to which there are many employees under this classification. It can jade younger workers who feel uncomfortable when it is occurring around them and involving senior management.
These types of verbal blow-outs or exchanges are common in the following areas which can act as a guide for environments to avoid if you would rather not witness or engage in such behavior.
-Entrepreneurial organizations where there is a lot of passion
-Family owned companies where blood is more likely to fight other blood
-High pressure work places where money is made or lost easily
-Environments where employees face tight deadlines
-Environments where there can be/or appear to be a lack of support
According to a survey by Fierce Inc., 30% of executives or employees argue once a month.
Verbal arguments in the workforce can be helpful if they bring out issues that need to resolved but they can also be really awkward and rudeness in the workplace will often affect employee morale.
