Interesting Grocery and Economic statistics for Canada for the third quarter of 2012 (Part 1 of 2)

Here is the first of two installments of interesting Canadian Grocery statistics for the third Quarter of 2012.  They also take into account total trends and results for 2012 year to date.  The data has been collected by compiling information from the following sources. (Statistics Canada/Nielsen Data/Retail Council of Canada)

1.

For the 7th quarter in a row, CPG prices continue to rise with inflation gaining momentum, after slowing in the second quarter.

2.

Private Label share drops below 2010 share levels.

3.

Discount grocery channel now represents 50% of the grocery channel in Ontario.

4.

Both U.S. and Canadian consumer confidence has increased significantly vs. the global increase.

5.

B.C. (7%) Alberta (4.4%), Saskatchewan (4.7%) and Manitoba (5%) are all below the National Unemployment average of 7.4%.  Ontario (7.9%) Quebec (8%) New Brunswick (11%) Nova Scotia (8.6%) PEI (11.2%) and Nefoundland/Labrador (12.3%)

Male unemployment is up from 2011.  (7.6% vs. 7.9%)

7.

Unemployment has increased from 2011 for the age group of 15-25 years. (14% vs. 15%)

8.

The exact same amount of Canadians (38%) feel that if they were to have spare cash they would pay down debt or deposit into savings.

9.

Debt, Economy and Job Security are still the top three fears of Canadians.

10.

Males biggest concern is the economy.

11.

Females biggest concern are food prices.  The economy does not even crack the females top 5 concerns.
