Secrets for a Good Interview
The secret to having a good interview with an employer is to:

Know yourself

Know
the organization and the job

Practice for the interview

Make the right impression
I would say that people generally execute 3 out of 4 of these points but they usually fall short on one.
They may have done their homework on the company but arrive looking disheveled and have awkward body language.
They may nail the interview rapport but then ask a question or reveal inadvertently that they have no understanding of the industry after they just finished saying that the industry is their passion.
I would say the one point that is more often than not the one that is missing.
It is point number 1.
Yes, you can say what your you are good at and speak to your successes, but do you truly know who you are and can you express that with confidence?
Knowing yourself and asking yourself the difficult questions is often an exercise that is avoided by many.
It can be uncomfortable for some people.
Maybe there is a glaring weakness that they have that they do not wish to acknowledge.
Maybe they see their faults more than their strengths, or maybe their exit from their last company is still weighing on them.
Regardless, it is important to take inventory of yourself and develop the T- chart of what you like to do and take inventory of your passions and strengths.
It is an exercise that will also help someone build up their confidence again if needed.
When you are finished developing the list, write down all the aspects of a job or a company that you do not wish to have in your next move.
Go deep on this one.
Don’t’ settle for, “I don’t want office politics” or “I don’t want a micromanager.”
Go deep.
There are two reasons for this.
Firstly, it will allow you to focus on opportunities where you will enjoy yourself, and we all know this will allow for someone to also excel.
Secondly, when someone knows exactly what they want, and is open about their limitations and knows where they will provide effectiveness and efficiency, something magical happens.
An interviewer will be attracted to the individual’s self-awareness and a connection is almost always created.
It inspires REAL dialogue.
