Driving Cultural Fit
Cultural fit is still the key for companies as they try to navigate their way through adding outside talent to their organization. As more companies are looking for ways to mitigate the risk associated with these new hires, there is an increased interest in assessment tools that examine this area as well as the fact that there are more company's trying to establish corporate DNA through high level initiatives.
These initiatives often include addressing this area in in a 5 year corporate strategy.
In order to do this successfully, some companies find it helpful to make sure that their messaging is as clear and succinct as possible. This HAS to be driven from the most senior leadership and not from some schmaltzy quote that a company founder made some 80 years ago. A meaningless mission statement or an old fashioned values statements about delighting customers is an utter waste of time and does not resonate with an employee base.
To help with focus, a company should know and articulate the following. This should also be repeated and also delivered consistently from all of senior management, thus further driven down into the organization.
What is your:
Core corporate proposition?
How is your company qualified to do this?
What is the company method for implementation?
How will the company deliver on this promise?
What is the structure for implementing?
Effective communication that addresses these areas will engage not only the staff, but prospective employees as well if it communicates the above in a tight and consistent delivery. It will also attract desirable individuals who might not otherwise have even been interested in a certain industry but are more attracted to the message and how it satisfies customer needs.
