People sometimes ask me what courses they think that they should take. They may be in a position where they want to change jobs or industries or both, or they may be between jobs and now have some extra time to take a course while they look for the next position.

More often than not, senior executives are good communicators but that cannot not be said as easily at lower executive levels.  There are still many that struggle with networking, speaking in a concise executive summary format, or there are others who are very technical in areas such as finance or I.T., but they simply struggle with relating to other business units, or have difficulty relating technical information to a non technical audience.

The bottom line is that:

Public speaking and communication courses can have the largest impact on performance, earning power and satisfaction.  

Be sure to look at your communication skills with a realistic assessment before you over-invest in some niche technology course in order to improve your work situation.
