Executives in Transition Please Take Note
I hear often from executives in transition about their frustrations with the length of the hiring process for the different opportunities that may be pursuing.
There is no doubt that searches are still taking longer to close versus 5 years ago.
It is still a client driven market versus a candidates driven market.
How do you combat this?
**Make sure that you are doing as much networking as possible.
Use your resources to uncover potential job leads or new job creations and continue to uncover other potential opportunities through your network.**
I often hear about candidates that start to relax when they are at second and third stage interviews with a company and they decide to focus on that position.
Keep working your network despite starting to focus on one job opportunity.
I believe it is important for three main reasons.
1.
An opportunity can go sideways at any time. (internal candidate promoted, the position is cancelled, a retirement is postponed, budget is cut, someone else accepts the position)
Don’t get caught standing out in the rain.
2.
When one focuses on one or even two opportunities exclusively, there is a greater sense of anxiety when they fall apart and one has to start the job search
process all over again.
Mental exhaustion and procrastination can also occur when faced with having to re-ignite the search process which many people can experience.
3.
When someone in transition is actively networking and speaking to many people, there is strong positive energy and a high level of confidence that are also produced.
This is something that is highly noticeable for most people to witness which can make someone more attractive to companies as well as allowing the candidate to better position themselves during job offer negotiations.
