Job Search Balance
After last week’s blog I was asked by a few people to again discuss the act of job search while unemployed.
From my experience, mix and balance are the essentials for an effective job search.
Be sure to mix your days with the following four activities:
1.
Productive networking meetings or interviews
2.
Exercise
3.
Productive projects at home
4.
Reading
A healthy balance of these four items is vital as part of a job search.
1.
Productive networking meetings are self-explanatory.
2.
Exercise (I hr/day) will increase productivity and often provides a healthy glow to one’s presentation.
3.
Productive projects around the house work wonders when it comes to increasing one’s confidence level and will provide a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of productivity during a time of unemployment.
4.
Reading is the key learning component which triggers new concepts and encourages new ideas of thought.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE
These four areas need to be addressed simultaneously.
If they are not utilized in harmony they lose most of their effectiveness.
My experience with people taking time off to entirely dedicate themselves to a side project or travel is that they are not as sharp by the time the job search becomes a priority.
For instance, a side project that was completed in dedication for three months has very little capability for injecting self confidence in month number three in a dedicated job search.
If you are not gifted when it comes to a home projects like doing house repairs, work on less involved items like painting, cleaning, or organizing a basement.
Farewell,
Mike
